10th International Shiborisymposium, Oaxaca, Mexico, 2016

”The skin has waves like a seascape” has developed from the association of sand and seabeds when experimenting with arashi-shibori and madder dyeing.
The cliffs and rocks where I live by the Baltic sea have the yellow pinkish color that the weak baths of madder gives. At the same time the colors and lines make me think of flesh and skin with wrinkles.
Pieces of wool cloth are sewn together with blue and blue-green silk thread, to allude to the sky and the sea. In the sides and in the front there are strips of silk organza to create a sense of depth and of sunbeams over a beach and the water surface, or sun-rays over a soft body.
